Pitchad heeya is the Pemaquid Point Maine Lighthouse. It was commissioned by John Quincy Adams (a graduate of Hahvahd University, by the way,) way back in 1827. Pemaquid was established in 1625, the first permanent colony in Maine. (Actually, Maine DID become paht of Massachusetts for a time, but we still considah early Maine history as MAINE history!)
Movin' right along... lighthouses ah wicked interestin' to most folks, always in a gawgiss settin' and full o' fascinatin' history and chahm. Lighthouses help guide owah folks at sea to safety. Earliest known lighthouses go back to the 7th century BC built on the Mediterranean Sea! (That fact suprised us, too!)
