DESCRIPTION Cape Lookout Lighthouse Core Bank Island, NC 1893 The present light was started in 1857 and was the basic design for the Cape Hatteras, Bodie Island and Currituck Beach Towers. During refurbishing in 1873, the tower was first painted with it's black and white diamond design.
