Information about the Richmond Hotel The four-story Richmond Hotel located at Main and Court streets was considered one of the finest lodging places in upstate New York. It opened in 1889, replacing the St. James Hotel, which was destroyed in a fire in 1886. It became the fourth such lodging house on the same site, dating back to the Eagle Tavern which opened in 1823. It was named in honor of Mrs. Mary Richmond, widow of Dean Richmond, from whom the Batavia Hotel Company obtained the mortgage.

Each postcard is sleeved in a clear 2mil sleeve made out of polyethylene, polypropylene and polyester. All of these materials have passed the Photo Activity Test (P.A.T.) certifying that they are safe for long-term storage.
