DESCRIPTION: Built of red brick on a granite caisson in 1874, this lighthouse is one of the most elegant and decorative Hudson River lighthouses. Visible from Riverfront Park in Athens, the lighthouse is located in the middle of the river opposite the city of Hudson. Also referred to as the Athens Lighthouse, it still guides ships safely around the shallow mud shoal, called the Middle Ground Flats.
