TITLE: St. George Reef Lighthouse, California
SIZE: Standard
DESCRIPTION: St. George Reef Lighthouse, California
Built between 1882 and 1892 following the 1865 wreck of the coastal steamer Brother Johnathan and the loss of 150 lives. The $700,000 construction cost earned it the title of "America's Most Expense Lighthouse." Alas, hundreds of granite blocks towering 150 feet above sea level did not prevent the loss of four keeper's lives, earning it a reputation as one of the most dangerous stations. Seen here in 1934

Each postcard is sleeved in a clear 2mil sleeve made out of polyethylene, polypropylene and polyester. All of these materials have passed the Photo Activity Test (P.A.T.) certifying that they are safe for long-term storage.
